Whats the difference between a Responsive Yoyo and an Unresponsive Yoyo

One of the first things you need to know about when shopping for your first yoyo is what the difference is between a responsive and an unresponsive yoyo. In this short guide, I will explain the main differences and which type is best for you.

The main difference between a responsive and an unresponsive yoyo is that a responsive yoyo comes back to your hand with a simple tug on the string; this is what most people know as a yoyo. An unresponsive yoyo, on the other hand, doesn’t come back when you tug it but instead requires a special trick called the bind to get it to return to your hand. This allows it to spin longer and perform more intricate tricks, but it’s a bit harder to learn than a responsive yoyo.

Which one is right for you

If you are a beginner player looking for your first yoyo, then a responsive yoyo will be the best for you to start learning all the basics.

If you already have a responsive yoyo and have mastered all the basics, then an unresponsive yoyo will allow you to continue learning and mastering even more yoyo tricks.

But wait before you make your decision because there is another kind of yoyo, it doesn’t have a set name but I like to call it an adjustable yoyo. Adjustable yoyos, like the name suggests, can switch between responsive and unresponsive. We recommend adjustable yoyos for most people starting out because you can master all the basics while it’s responsive and then instead of buying an unresponsive yoyo, you just switch it to unresponsive and start learning more advanced tricks.
